India Un-Curried

A new 4-part cooking class series is a great way to explore different facets of regional Indian cuisines. Sign up for one session or the whole series ($65 per 2-hour class or $250 for the 4-class series). All classes are help at Surfas Restaurant Supply & Gourmet Food. See class details below.

un-curry this winter/spring

Go beyond tandoori to discover the rich culinary traditions of the Indian sub-continent. Learn the basics of cooking Indian. Or just expand your repertoire of Indian recipes. Our individual and group classes feature a variety of themes for beginners and experienced cooks alike. These classes are also perfect for a bridal shower or birthday party. Join us in our kitchen or have us into yours! Your food-loving friends will love a gift certificate to one of our classes too.


Our 2 and 3-hour, hands-on classes (held at one of three locations - see below) are appropriate for all skill levels. The package includes a folder of recipes & tips and take-away box of spices or treats. Each session ends with a delicious sit-down meal.

Spices 101


  1. The most puzzling thing about Indian cooking can be its spices. This class demystifies popular Indian spices and shows you how to use them in Indian dishes or how to vary your own repertoire with a dash of cumin or a hint of asafetida.

Lentil Life

  2. India's chief protein source finds its way into salads, sauces, rice dishes, snacks and desserts. Learn more about the nutritious and diverse lentil in this class.                                        

Indian Salad Bowl

  2. These healthy, easy-to-make, delicious salads work with both Indian and American menus.  Learn how to make these salads with ingredients ranging from the simple (tomato-onion) to the complex (roasted eggplant).                                                  

Indian Tea Party

  2. Indians love to snack! Learn to make some of our favorite sweet and savory treats to serve at your next party. Then enjoy them with a steaming hot cup of masala chai at our own Indian tea party.

  2. Every season, we visit local farmers markets to find wonderful local and seasonal produce to cook with. Discover fresh new ways to serve your favorite California veggies and fruits!                

Meat Feast

  2. For all you carnivores out there. Go beyond tandoori to explore some of India’s flavorful meat and seafood dishes: from spicy stir-fries to tangy stews and coastal India’s coconutty delicacies.

Holiday Spice

Join us as we make flavorful holiday gifts from scratch and enjoy some aromatic snacks and spiced chai (or wine) while we cook. This is a great date night class. Meet a friend after work, cook together and leave with edible proof of what you learnt! Get into the holiday spirit as you whip up your own spice blends and preserves to gift to your favorite foodies. You will learn how to blend different spices into unique “masalas” and fresh condiments that you can use with Indian and Western meals. Take away 5 gift tins of masala and 5 jars of condiments (cilantro chutney, fresh mango pickle, etc) as well as recipe-card gift tags and a folder of the recipes you made.

PayPal allows you to use any major credit card for your transactions.  Please note that PayPal takes 24-48 hours to process into our system. Therefore, if you sign up using PayPal within 48 hours of a class, please email us so we can save a spot for you.   2. To pay by check, please allow 10 business days for the check to reach us.

  3. A minimum of 5 students is required for a class to be held. If a session is cancelled, you will be accommodated at the next available session.

  4. Fees are refunded, upon receiving notice, up to 7 days before a class.
